WHAT IS NIE?

The Hartford Courant’s NIE program:

  • provides newspapers to schools
  • conducts teacher workshops
  • offers curriculum materials
  • helps teachers develop newspaper use for student learning in a variety of subject and grade levels.


  • Teachers can order:
  • a classroom subscription of the newspaper on any day for as many days as they wish for just 35 cents per copy (minimum order of 5 newspapers); and/or,

  • one or several of NIE's programs.


  • WHY USE NIE?
    The newspaper offers something for everyone. Newspapers:
  • are an inexpensive, up-to-date, flexible medium that can be effectively integrated into existing curriculums.
  • are well suited to both individualized and cooperative instruction.
  • are packed with useful information written at a variety of reading levels.
  • address a wide variety of subjects that appeal to individual interests, needs and ability levels.
  • stimulate involvement, participation, discussion and excitement.

  • practical application for skills and concepts in the school curriculum.
  • information which expands and relevantly updates textbook contents.
